LESSON 10 - Analytics, Measurement, Reporting | FREE DIGITAL MARKETING CLASS
Mriganka Sekhar Ganguly

AllGrowRhythm Academy · Lesson 10
Numbers Don't Make Decisions. People Do.
Learn to measure campaign performance, interpret analytics, diagnose problems, and communicate what the results mean for the business.
AnalyticsMeasurementReporting
Explore the sections, calculate campaign metrics and build your own report.
01 · UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE
Measurement is not the same as reporting.
Measurement collects evidence. Analytics interprets the evidence. Reporting communicates the meaning and the next decision.
MeasureCollect data
AnalyseFind patterns
ExplainInterpret results
DecideChoose action
Tap each stage to understand the difference
MeasurementWhat happened?
Collect reliable figures such as reach, clicks, enquiries, orders and spend. Define each metric consistently and specify the period it covers.
AnalyticsWhy might it have happened?
Compare patterns across posts, audiences, customer journey stages and periods. Identify plausible explanations, but do not confuse correlation with proven causation.
ReportingWhat does the team need to know?
Present the most important results, explain their relevance to the objective, state limitations and recommend a next action.
DecisionWhat changes now?
Choose whether to continue, refine, investigate or stop. A report is useful when it supports a clear, defensible decision rather than simply displaying numbers.
02 · CHOOSE THE RIGHT METRIC
Every metric answers a different question.
Start with the business objective. Then choose metrics that show whether the customer journey is moving in the right direction.
The measurement journey
AttentionReach
InterestMeaningful response
IntentEnquiries
PurchaseOrders
ValueProfit, retention
Reach and impressionsDistribution
Reach generally counts unique accounts or people exposed, while impressions count displays. Exact definitions vary by platform. These metrics help assess distribution, not whether people intend to purchase.
EngagementResponse
Likes, comments, shares and saves can reveal different kinds of response. Interpret them in context: a useful question or a saved recommendation may be more relevant to the objective than a casual like.
CTR and clicksAction toward a destination
Click-through rate is usually clicks divided by impressions, multiplied by 100, when using the corresponding platform definitions. Always state which click type and denominator you use.
Conversion rateCompletion of a defined action
Conversions divided by the relevant eligible population, multiplied by 100. That population might be clicks, sessions, leads or enquiries. State the denominator because different definitions produce different rates.
Cost per resultEfficiency
Relevant campaign cost divided by the number of defined results. For example, spend divided by qualified enquiries. Include the cost scope and the definition of a qualified enquiry.
Revenue and profitBusiness value
Revenue measures sales value. Profit accounts for relevant costs. A campaign can generate revenue while losing money, so use the measure that matches the business decision.
03 · READ A CAMPAIGN DASHBOARD
Numbers become useful when they connect.
The following figures are hypothetical teaching data for a bookstore campaign. They are not real performance results or recommended benchmarks.
Each bar shows the number as a percentage of reach. This is not the conversion rate between adjacent stages.

Click-through rate200 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 2%
This 2% calculation uses reach as the denominator for illustration. It is a click-to-reach rate, not the standard impression-based CTR. To calculate platform CTR, use clicks divided by impressions where available.
Enquiry-to-order rate5 ÷ 20 × 100 = 25%
One quarter of these qualified enquiries became orders in the example. Investigate whether the other enquiries were lost due to stock, price, delivery, response delays or customer fit.
Order count5 confirmed orders
Order count is an outcome metric, but it does not reveal profitability by itself. You also need sales value, product margins, relevant campaign costs and a consistent attribution method.
The missing informationWhat would improve the analysis?
Add spend, impressions, revenue, relevant product margins, response time, source attribution and a comparable baseline. Without these, the dashboard supports only limited conclusions.
04 · CALCULATE THE METRICS
Experiment with campaign performance.
Change the hypothetical numbers below to see how conversion rates, cost per enquiry and revenue-to-ad-spend ratio respond. This is a simple calculator, not a prediction of actual performance.
Calculate performanceReset example
Cost per clickRs.25Spend ÷ clicks
Cost per enquiryRs.250Spend ÷ enquiries
Enquiry-to-order rate25 PercentOrders ÷ enquiries
ROAS2.0XRevenue ÷ ad spend
Results use the values currently entered.
Know what the calculations do not tell you
ROAS is not profitRevenue ÷ advertising spend
A 2× return on ad spend means ₹2 of attributed revenue for each ₹1 of ad spend under the chosen attribution rules. It does not subtract product cost, delivery, production, staff time or other expenses.
Cost per enquiry is not CACDifferent metrics
Cost per enquiry measures the cost of generating an enquiry. Customer acquisition cost generally measures the relevant acquisition cost divided by acquired customers. The cost scope and customer definition must be explicit.
Attribution mattersWhich campaign gets credit?
A customer may see a post, search for the shop and later order through WhatsApp. Platform attribution, tracking windows and self-reported sources may assign credit differently. Report the method and limitations.
Data quality mattersGarbage in, garbage out
Duplicate enquiries, cancelled orders, missing spend and inconsistent date ranges distort results. Check definitions and data quality before making a major decision.
05 · COMPARE PERFORMANCE FAIRLY
A number without context can mislead you.
Compare like with like. Different audiences, formats, budgets, seasons and measurement windows can produce different results for reasons unrelated to creative quality.
Tap to inspect the comparison rules
Same time windowAvoid mismatched periods
Compare equivalent periods and account for seasonality, campaign duration and delayed conversions. A seven-day campaign should not be compared casually with a month-long campaign.
Same metric definitionConsistent denominators
Do not compare clicks divided by reach with clicks divided by impressions as if they were the same CTR. Document definitions, platform sources and changes in tracking.
Relevant baselineWhat is normal for this business?
Use prior comparable campaigns, an agreed target or a suitable benchmark. Generic industry averages may not reflect the business, audience, offer or platform context.
Enough evidenceAvoid overreacting
One unusual post or a tiny sample may be misleading. Look for repeated patterns and consider uncertainty before declaring a winner or making a large budget shift.
Example: two posts, two different stories
Post A · Reach10,000Qualified enquiries: 5
Post B · Reach4,000Qualified enquiries: 12
Post A reached more people. Post B generated more qualified enquiries despite lower reach. That makes Post B worth investigating for its audience relevance and message, but you should also compare costs, orders, context and repeatability before scaling it.
06 · DIAGNOSE THE BOTTLENECK
Find where performance breaks down.
Instead of changing the whole campaign, identify the weakest supported stage and investigate its likely causes.
Low reach
Investigate distribution, audience relevance, creative format and discoverability.
Reach is healthy, clicks are low
Investigate whether the message, offer and CTA give people a relevant reason to take the next step.
Clicks are healthy, enquiries are low
Check whether the destination works, the next step is clear and the offer meets the audience's needs.
Enquiries are healthy, orders are low
Investigate response time, availability, price, delivery charges, payment friction and enquiry quality.
Orders are healthy, profit is weak
Examine margins, discounts, production costs, advertising spend, fulfilment costs and repeat purchase behaviour.
Choose the strongest diagnosis
The next section tests whether you can connect a metric pattern to a sensible investigation.
Don't assume the causeA symptom is not proof
Low conversions may be caused by an unclear offer, poor audience fit, slow replies or unavailable products. Check the evidence before selecting a fix.
For a WhatsApp-based business, response delay, unanswered messages, stock-check delays and order cancellations may explain why interest fails to become sales.
07 · DECISION LAB
Turn a metric into an action.
Choose the strongest answer. The explanation appears directly below the question.
Scenario 1: Reach rises by 80%, but qualified enquiries remain unchanged. What should you conclude?
A. The campaign is definitely successful because reach rose.B. Distribution improved, but there is no demonstrated increase in qualified enquiries; investigate relevance and the next step.C. The platform algorithm is definitely broken.
Scenario 2: A campaign has a 3× ROAS. Does that prove the campaign is profitable?
A. Yes. ROAS above 1× always means profit.B. No. ROAS compares attributed revenue with ad spend; other costs and margins still matter.C. Yes, provided the campaign generated at least one order.
Scenario 3: The number of enquiries is healthy, but few become orders. What should you examine?
A. Reach alone.B. The enquiry-to-order journey, including stock, pricing, response time and delivery.C. The number of posts published, without checking any other data.
08 · WRITE A USEFUL REPORT
A report should answer five questions.
A client or manager usually needs a clear explanation of results and decisions, not a spreadsheet full of disconnected metrics.
1. What was the objective?
State the intended business outcome and the period being reviewed.
2. What happened?
Present the most relevant results with consistent definitions and a comparable baseline.
3. What does it mean?
Explain the most important pattern and separate observed facts from hypotheses.
4. What are the limitations?
Disclose missing data, uncertain attribution, small samples or operational factors that affect interpretation.
5. What happens next?
Recommend a specific action, who will own it and what metric will be reviewed next.
Tap to compare weak and strong reporting
Weak report“Engagement increased.”
This does not state the objective, the size of the change, the comparison period, the business significance or the next step. The reader cannot tell whether the result matters.
Stronger reportResult + interpretation + action
“Qualified enquiries rose from 12 to 18 compared with the previous comparable period. Recommendation posts generated most of the recorded enquiries, although source tracking is incomplete. Next, we will repeat the format and improve enquiry-source tracking before increasing spend.”
09 · BUILD YOUR CAMPAIGN REPORT
